Police Rescue 62 Kayakers

By Rocky Thompson on July 6th, 2012

Chicago’s finest saved 62 kayakers who decided to abandon ship and go for a swim in the North Branch of the Chicago River during some afternoon storms. Many of them were kids and all were novice kayakers taking part in a tour along the river. They pulled 30 capsized boats from the river, and everyone plucked from the river survived. Though if they didn’t go into a rigorous cleaning station right after climbing out of the water they may not last much longer. That river’s dirty on a good day. Swollen with sewage and street runoff during a storm, that river’s not where you want to go for a swim.

If you read the article it never mentions that the children decided to go swimming on their own. They capsized due to weather, there’s a difference. I grew up in Chicago and believe me kids don’t want to swim in that river.

you should read the real incident report from the group leader: http://caskaorg.typepad.com/caska/2012/07/kayakers-rescued-on-the-chicago-rivercomplete-story.html the story put out by the city of Chicago’s media group is a bit exaggerated….
