Doping and Armstrong — It’s not about Lance
By Michael Frank on June 22nd, 2012
No matter which side of the debate you stand on, we bet you’re just tired of hearing about Lance, period. But a post on Red Kite Prayer frames the issue in a way that should make you care, because this isn’t about Lance, it’s about the hypocrisy of testing for doping in cycling, and really, in all sports. The idea is that if you catch all the dopers the doping will stop, and our kids won’t juice to win at football or track — or at league mountain bike racing, since high school racing leagues are proliferating. But even among the pros (pick your sport) drug testing is so scattershot that it’s far easier to presume that you won’t be asked to pee in a cup — and so until or, if, you make the “show” why not dope? Everyone else is, right? It’s a very disturbing question. Via Red Kite Prayer.
