Last of the Great Unknown: Exploring the Grand Canyon
By Rocky Thompson on April 5th, 2012
I find the notion that even one inch of the Grand Canyon has gone unexplored something hard to fathom. But the crew behind The Last Great Unknown would have me believe otherwise. The team headed into the narrow slot canyons carved by the river’s innumerable tributaries, and they came out with this lovely trailer for a film that has premiered this month.

I think they’re referring to the fact that several of the slot canyons that they’ve descended had never seen previous canyoneers. I guess you could argue one way or the other whether that’s true exploration, but perhaps sadly that’s all that’s left with most of the planet combed over…
The ragged edge of whats left to be discovered? One of the most remote and most difficult expeditions anybody’s put together? Bitch please… cavers do that on a regular basis, in places so far underground beyond all hope of rescue, often beyond sumps and stay there for weeks at a time in cave camps. the perpetual darkness and the sense of remoteness can wreak havoc in your mind. These guys arguments are invalid.
Looks like a super fun trip, but “explorers” is a pretty big stretch. And what really gets me is they don’t they call it “the” Grand Canyon. They keep saying things like “here in Grand Canyon”. It may be correct, but it sounds super pretentious.
