True Crime and the Appalachian Trail
By Rocky Thompson on March 21st, 2012A couple buddies headed out to one of their favorite camping spots along the Appalachian Trail for a bit of quiet. They ran into a lone hiker, and the gregarious folks that they are, invited him to join them for a meal. A bit later one was steering down a mountain road from the passenger seat with a bullet in his neck while the driver slumped over the wheel with a gunshot wound. It’s an incredible story.
The shooter was a man who’d been paroled 10 years earlier after serving half a 30-year sentence for killing two people on the trail back in 1981. I won’t ruin the ending. Check out the story by Vance Garnett, it’s worth the read.
