Taking the Guess-Work Out of Running Rapids

By Steve Casimiro, Adventure Journal on February 24th, 2012

A new service from the U.S. Geological Survey — the USGS WaterAlert — will send you a text or email on water levels from any of the survey’s 7,000 real-time stream gauges around the country. You can set the alerts for when conditions are above a value, below a value, and between or outside a range of values. The service is free and if you really want to geek out you can be alerted on water quality, temperature, and more.
