In Wake of Rainier Shooting, A Move to Ban Guns in Parks
By Steve Casimiro, Adventure Journal on February 22nd, 2012
It’s been two years since it became legal to carry guns in national parks and now a group of congressman led by the Washington State delegation are trying to overturn the law and reinstate the ban on weapons. The move comes after the January shooting death of Mt. Rainier National Park ranger Margaret Anderson. “The dreadful and deeply saddening event that occurred on Mt. Rainier makes me question why on earth people should be allowed to carry loaded weapons in our national parks,” said Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., in introducing new legislation. Via Seattle PI.

Sure…but the crazies aren’t going to pay attention to the law anyway. You’ve just taken away the protection afforded to our upstanding citizens.
For protection against dangerous animals and people.
I dont understand how a law outlawing guns in a national park would have stopped this man from murdering that Park Ranger. Someone on a murderous rampage who is mentally unstable isnt going to get to Rainier and say “oh damn, no guns allowed, time to go somewhere else” The entire argument is ludicrous. Now I don’t believe guns should be allowed in the parks, but i feel this argument is complete BS
Why was she killed? I carry my gun in parks to protect myself from crazy people like this! It’s not the gun’s fault, it’s the dude who shot her who is at fault! Don’t take it out on my 2nd Amendement!
Some law will never prevent someone from carrying a gun into a national park, just like a lock will never keep a thief from breaking into your house (locks were made to keep the honest man out). I will carry my pistol no matter what happens with the law because of the fact that this “law” will never keep the wrong people from carrying guns into parks and committing crimes such as this.
