A local San Francisco newspaper carried the above photo with a story of a prolific bike thief caught last week. While I appreciate and empathize with the guy who left the sign, I also recognize that there’s little value in seeking retribution for a stolen bike. It’s like standing on the shoulder of the highway and screaming at cars driving past. Also, if this guy who officers apprehended stealing bikes out of a garage gets killed after posting his bail, the police will have a pretty good idea of who did it. (Not me.)
