Petrified Forest National Park Bus Arrests

By Rocky Thompson on January 30th, 2012

A park ranger at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona responded to a call that a group of people on a bus were collecting petrified wood. She approached the bus’s crew and asked if they had been illegally collecting petrified wood, which they admitted. When she asked if there was anything else on the bus she should know about they said there might be some marijuana. A search of the bus and the 12 occupants yielded 12 pounds of petrified wood and three pounds of marijuana. No one in the group admitted knowing the drugs were on board, which is odd since they also told the ranger they might have drugs. In any case, they were all charged, two more severely than the rest. The next day in court most walked out with $610 in fines, while two received $1,025 in fines and one juvenile had all tickets dismissed. I never would have guessed Arizona had such liberal marijuana enforcement, good thing their bus didn’t get stopped in Florida.

Good thing their bus didn’t get stopped in Florida?
Um, maybe there’s not a lot of petrified wood in Florida.
