The current construction tab for the Sochi Winter Olympics is $41.6 billion, 70 of the 400 construction projects are behind schedule, and the site is located near the “restive” North Caucasus region (meaning there are people with guns who kill other people). But the International Olympic Committee says it isn’t worried. The reason: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is very much the man behind the Games. Jean-Claude Killy, who’s involved, says, “He has the power. His political position is the No. 1 factor. His love for sport is No. 2.” What he didn’t say is that if you want to get something done in new-gangster Russian, you should call a former KBG dude with dictatorial tendencies.
