Testicle-Biting Invasive Fish in Papua New Guinea
By Rocky Thompson on January 3rd, 2012The discovery of a 40lb fish that has the habit of castrating young fishermen will not be good for the eco-tourism fishing economy of Papua New Guinea. The Pacu fish, known in the region as ‘The Ball Cutter,’ has been responsible for the deaths of a couple fishermen who bled to death after bites and has locally been reported as a mysterious beast which attacks young fishermen. Originally introduced to boost fish stocks, the Amazonian vegetarian fish adapted to eat meat in the Papua New Guinea wild with its powerful teeth and jaw. “‘When I reeled it in, it had this mouth which was surprisingly human-like, it is almost like they have teeth specially made for crushing.”
