The audio on this is abysmal, but it may still represent a PR problem for the Utah resort Snowbasin. These guys were harassed for skiing ‘fast’ through a slow zone, and the mustachioed ski instructor and ski patroller let them have it. Skip to 1:42 for the “You want your pass? Then shut you’re f***ing mouth.” Toward the end of the video it seems the ‘troller notices the camera and takes a step back from his earlier demands.

bad PR for the moustache as well

“Slow area” – I’ve seen this in Colorado quite a bit and something has to be done. It only takes a 160lb + person hitting a smaller (or kid) and that’s it. If the area is designated slow then the resort has an obligation and responsibility to police it as such.

This guy was pretty respectful, but he did note that he is “always stopped.” That would likely indicate he’s doing something wrong or boarding too fast for the trail he is on.

I ski faster than all hell myself, but I’m respectful when I come into designated slow zones. There are plenty of places on the mountain you can bomb it, but in areas with integrated levels of riders safety should come first.

Those two should have lost both their passes in my opinion. Their only lucky break is that he treated the situation poorly, and felt bad for offending their pristine ears with a word I’m sure they’ve never used. I don’t care what the ticket price is; patrollers don’t get paid enough to deal with the attitudes. He stopped them in a beginner area where he probably already stopped a handful of people (little effers) exactly like those two. Although I’m sure the rules don’t apply to them because they looked super sick doing some super sick grabs, and going super fast in front of all those beginners and instructors with their super sick POV / cellphone camera. Every time a patroller has to babysit a beginner zone, is a time a patroller isn’t helping someone else. Their probably lucky that they did not hear more words with *, and &, or one these things @ in it. Take some responsibility and stop trying to change the topic from going too fast in a beginner area to oppression by Snowbasin’s Ski Patrol. Everyone was a beginner once.

What does not show in this video is that a skier had just come within a foot of being hit in the head as the boarder flew over him doing a 360. This was not the first time that day that this boarder had been called on his reckless behavior. Kudos to the Snowbasin employees for stopping these boarders. These boarders displayed reckless, irresponsible, and out-of-control behavior. Harassed? No. These young men are spoiled, not held accountable for their behavior and lack respect for rules. (Nice parenting job, Mom and Dad).
The boarders should have immediately had their passes revoked and escorted off the mountain. Snowbasin should fully back their employees as they challenge this reckless behavior. If not, they will be opening themselves up to The Mother Of All Lawsuits when (NOT if) someone is killed or seriously maimed on their mountain because the behavior of reckless boarders is allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged.

    “…we’re locals…”
WTF does that have to do with anything? An employee of the resort has no business talking to anyone that way.

  7. A local

“We’re locals…we’re putting money into this place.”

Yeah, because locals and their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and beer in their backpacks create so much more revenue than the destination tourist.

I hope the patroller and the instructor got fired over this, the video showed him going fairly slow or at least the same speed as every one else around him. I would have agreed with the employees if the instructor had a class and he sprayed snow or had a near miss or something else that was just stupid. Instructors are not trained to deal with the public in that manner, thats why resorts like vail corp. hirer the safety people in the yellow jackets and they give out warnings and are generally polite to the public. If an instructor acted like that at any of the mountains I’ve worked at they would have been fired on the spot, and they have. There is never any excuse to treat the public that way.

this crap is what I don’t miss about skiing in red states. Around here, patrollers don’t feel the need to act out their cop fantasies, and instead are nice people…. around here people that didn’t get laid in high school become border guards, not ski patrollers

IdahoGirl where did you get your info? If you watch the unedited version posted on vimeo there was no such incident. He was stopped for going by a stationary instructor too closely to hit a 180 while said instructor watched him the whole time. Not sure why skiers are overreacting so severely.
