Marijuana Grow Farms an Epidemic in U.S. National Forests
By Michael Frank, Adventure Journal on December 15th, 2011
The U.S. Forest Service director of law enforcement, David Ferrell just told congress that pot farms are rampant in the nation’s National Forests. He told the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control that huge trafficking organizations “…are sophisticated and include armed guards, counter-surveillance methods, logistics support and state-of-the-art growing practices.” To give a sense of scale, Ferrell cited cleanup and restoration efforts in The Golden State that included tossing 130 tons of trash, 300 pounds of pesticides, five tons of fertilizer and nearly 260 miles of irrigation piping. You’d hope the law-and-order faithful in congress would be upset by this testimony, rather than continue misguided efforts to gut the ability of the Forest Service to do its job.
