Suffering in the Saddle — The Gift that Keeps on Giving
By Steve Casimiro on December 8th, 2011
We’ve all been there, suffering like a beast on a climb, or in a paceline. But Red Kite Prayer’s “Robot” absolutely nails that sense of suffering, of the murder that is the moment, the psychoses generated by feeling slow, the fear that is generated by what lies ahead…and then the revisionist history that follows a brutal ride. Afterwards we tell ourselves that it wasn’t so bad, that we weren’t going dog slow, pedaling squares, that the joys outweighed the sorrows…that the mean hill wasn’t that soul-crushing. And of course that we’ll charge it harder next time.
