Paralympic Cyclist Sets Sights on Conventional Olympics

By Rocky Thompson on December 6th, 2011

A silver-medal winning Dutch cyclist ended up with nerve damage after a routine ankle surgery went awry when she was young. Then in 2008 she was hit by a car leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. She charged through the Paralympic Games, but then during a training run she was hit by another cyclist and went into spasms on the side of the road. Shortly after her feet began to tingle, and a few weeks later she was walking around and talking about the Olympics. This week she earned a spot on a pro team. Talk about a good comeback story.
