It’s Not Too Early to Start Thinking about the 2022 Olympics
By Rocky Thompson on December 5th, 2011Nevada and California have agreed to team up to try to land the 2022 Winter Olympics in Lake Tahoe. Squaw Valley was a previous host of the games, and it looks like Denver and Tahoe are now squaring off to see who will get to put in a bid. If history is any indication, it will fall to whoever can get away with passing the biggest bribes to the nominating committee. With their mafia history and casino cash, my money’s on Nevada for the most convincing bribe.

Seems like North America gets (more than?) its fair share of Olympic Games. Wouldn’t it be fun to see a nation in the southern hemisphere make a successful bid instead? Chile, maybe? Or Peru?
I agree! Chile would be rad …. buuuuuut that would have to happen in the summer, cuz during our winter its their summer. Damn you seasons!
The problem with having the Winter Olympics in the southern hemisphere is timing. The Winter Olympics are held during January or February, which makes a southern location really hard. If you want to get into the reasoning behind holding the Olympics during the northern hemisphere seasons, that’s a whole different beast, but as things are now, I don’t see a southern hemisphere city getting a successful bid anytime soon. All that said though, I totally agree with you in that it’d be really cool to see the Winter Olympics somewhere in South America.
