Snowboarder Breaks Record for Celebratory Hand Gesture

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

There are world records for high-fiving? And how: A snowboarder named Roy Tuscany successfully give skin to 9,325 different people, breaking the world record for the most high-fives in a 24-hour period. While that’s not as huge as, say, setting the record for the biggest gap jump or the most aerial rotations, the agenda of this event, put on by the High-Fives Foundation, was raising awareness for athletes who have suffered life-altering injuries in winter sports.

Two Wisconsin teenagers got a lesson in the pervasiveness of social media on one’s life when they posted information about an owl they’d stolen from a raptor center on their Facebook pages. The police still haven’t recovered the owl, which can’t hunt for itself and relies on people for its food. They’re not sure how much time they’ll have to find the bird before it starves. It’s been a fixture at the raptor center for 11 years, and several people have offered to donate money for a reward. Police also think that the teens may have had another Harry-Potter-fan friend who helped in the heist, and they’re trying to track him down.

The idea is contentious, but with e-bike sales booming, you can bet the electric vs. “analog” debate is going to go national.

Patagonia Provisions: Salmon Jerky

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Environmentally friendly clothing and gear manufacturer juggernaut Patagonia is about to conquer a new field - salmon jerky. Based on their site it looks like the launch has been slightly delayed while their suppliers learn about the company’s exacting standards when it comes to marinade. Perhaps they’ll even be the first Food Alliance-certified clothing manufacturer?

Thanks Ian

Wyoming Triumph: Western Jibbing

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Barbed wire, manure and farm equipment. The KGB crew is out with their sixth webisode installment of Wyoming Triumph. We find them building a western-style jib course that looks like it’s a wonderful way to lose a limb while snowboarding. Prior webisodes can be found on their YouTube channel. Tetanus (I double-checked that spelling) shots and all.
