It’s no 127 hours, but at least these hikers had an emergency beacon close at hand. A guy from Vermont was trapped in a sandy area in Southeast Utah by the Dirty Devil River. More remarkable is that he tried to free himself for 13 hours and even worked with some other hikers who found him before setting off the beacon. He even endured a night stuck in the muck as it dipped down to 40 degrees. Besides the cold, standing that long would have been a nightmare. At least he wasn’t calling for a medivac to complain that his water tasted too salty.
