Shooting Better Photos with your Phone
By Rocky Thompson on November 29th, 2011
They say the best camera is the one that’s with you, and with the new iPhone camera shooting at a whopping 8-megapixels, it’s also better than a lot of point-and-shoots or old DSLRs. The ace team from Camp 4 Collective shot this music video entirely on a camera phone. Why? I’m not sure since they have loads of much cooler camera gear, but they sat down with National Geographic Adventure to talk iPhone camera tips. (Actually I just watched most of the music video. Shooting it on a phone couldn’t hurt.)

I do believe that the iPhone 4S’s camera is impressive… but it’s performance limitations are pretty clear to me in the video… the blowout out highlights all over the place when the singer is backlit. A hipster or wannabe auteur could say that they “wanted that to happen” for a “artsy, washed out ethereal look” in the same way people like the distorted lomo photography look. Now that’s fair for this particular video (the production itself is pretty good), but it still means the iPhone 4S is not really a viable video camera for general commercial/professional use just because a talented artist can use it’s “weaknesses” as strengths in very specific situation. I mean an daring (and brave) artist can make works of art out of feces ( http://bit.ly/tvnbWR ) that doesn’t mean feces is a great art tool/medium.
Wow, someones jealous that they dont have a 4s
