New Long Distance Trail in New Zealand
By Rocky Thompson on November 22nd, 2011You’re so over the Appalachian Trail. The Pacific Crest was cool…back in the 70s. Where can you go now to get your long-distance-trek fix? New Zealand is officially opening a 3000km (1864 mile) trail that runs the length of the entire country. The hardest part is almost certainly going to be the swim between the North and South Islands. The trail is called Te Araroa (the long pathway) and is the culmination of 17 years of work, much of it by volunteers. Most importantly it puts New Zealand into the lead in the ancient battle over whether NZ or Australia is cooler.
