Mr. Plow Comes to Hurricane Ridge Ski Area

By Michael Frank, Adventure Journal on November 16th, 2011

Tiny Hurricane Ridge is one of only three ski hills in America within the boundaries of a national park. And while its modest 800 feet of vert may not be much to write home about, it gets pounded with 43 feet of snow a year (it’s on the tippy top of a rainforest on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula) and accesses some fairly serious and legal backcountry. A season pass is only $200, too. The news: This year they’re plowing the road to H.R. daily — in past years they only plowed on weekends, so this is a big deal. From Seattle a trip to H.R. takes a little under two hours.
