Camper Mistakes Woman Peeing for Bear, Shoots Her

By Rocky Thompson on July 22nd, 2011

A camper in Canada woke up in the middle of the night to a bear peeing in the woods next to his tent. He did what anyone in a dead panic who happened to be holding a gun and had no firearms training would do – he shot at the noise. Turned out just to be a woman peeing. He hit her in the torso. She survived, and he was arrested but later released. The woman has said she won’t press charges, though Canadian police have said they’ll investigate anyway. She’s a pretty forgiving person, eh?

Is his guy and the guy who wrote the gun-porn article about shooting the pig the same person? I knew he’d run into trouble soon enough.

    Morons carry guns.

  3. mike

excuse me herb, do you carry a gun? no, then not all morons carry guns.
when you here about a story involving a gun you (i’ve seen your name here before) react with a very similar comment. there are responsible people who carry and you never hear about them because they are responsible. go figure.
this is an unfortunate accident. maybe the kids in alaska who were mauled by a bear this weekend should have have had a side arm. instead they are in a hospital. i don’t condone killing anything you dont eat, but protect yourself “responsibly”.

    All Herbs are Morons.

excuse me mike, but there are ways to protect yourself “responsibly” without shooting animals. Pepper spray would’ve been an educated means of defending yourself against a bear attack.
Here’s a post by a gentleman who carries a gun AND pepper spray:

my favourite part is “In fact, studies have shown that bear spray is better than a gun in deterring bear attacks. Bear spray caused bears to stop and straight out flee over 92% of the time, and this included examples of bears foraging an area for food and leaving the entire area. Guns only worked 67% of the time, meaning one third of the time the bullet wounds actually made the bears MORE aggressive”
    But hey, facts are facts.

Write a comment…I’d shoot her too if she was peeing on my tent !

Herb may overstate, but sorry, Mike, you can’t defend this. What the responsible people do with or without guns isn’t the issue. Unarmed irresponsible people don’t make these kinds of headlines because when they do something stupid, they usually just hurt themselves. When irresponsible people with guns do something stupid, some innocent bystander gets an extra hole in their body. You can’t really compare the two and not sound like an irrational gun nut.

And while “train the children in proper gun safety” (presumably including not shooting into the dark at unidentified noises) is a fine solution to prevent more of this kind of story, I have to disagree with “arm all the children” being the solution to prevent bear attacks. Try to be serious about this. Those kids were seriously injured and you’re using them as an NRA talking point? Poor taste.

excuse me mike, but sidearms definitely hurt and the idea that they might halp is fantasy. No maybes involved–if the moron hadn’t had a gun, the woman wouldn’t have been shot.

Guns don’t kill people, people do!

    But guns help. A lot.
