Pinecone Bounty in Superior National ForestBy Rocky Thompson on June 15th, 2011
I’ve heard of bounties on the heads of invasive rodents taking over national forests. You go in with a pile of carcasses and get paid out for shooting them. But what can our vegan friends do to collect some cash from the government? Pick pinecones. It seems the Superior National Forest need pinecones for their tree nurseries, and they’ll pay you $75 per bushel you collect. How big is a bushel, to give you an idea, a bushel of corn weighs about 65 pounds. That’s a lot of pinecones to haul around the forest all day.
