I used to think it would be funny to have a calendar with every National Day named on it. That way if you wanted to go out with friends and were looking for an excuse you could just flip open your calendar and say, “Sorry babe, gotta go out. Tonight is the National History of Cartoon Day.” But then I drank so much on Memorial Day weekend that I don’t feel like ever going out with friends again. So I guess maybe I’ll actually go hiking on National Trails Day this Saturday. The event is born from the Gipper’s idea that all Americans should be able to walk out their front door and hit trails within 15 minutes of walking. How we doing on that one by the way? The day is also a good time to volunteer and meet some locals in your hiking community.
