Survivor of ’96 Everest Disaster Returns to Summit

Climbing guide Neal Beidleman who survived the 1996 disaster on Everest though he lost his climbing partner and several friends returned to the mountain this year. In 1996 he was caught high on the mountain beyond any hope of rescue, but he managed to get himself down and helped anyone he could on the way. He summited on Friday, passing many of the graves of friends on the way up. The Ottawa Citizen has a write up on his trip to the summit. It’s an interesting account of what was certainly a bold choice to go back after 15 years.
