Saving the World with Bikes, Again

By Rocky Thompson on May 2nd, 2011

Backcountry.com employee and all-around good guy Jeff Bates is dealing with the BS that comes with battling Melanoma. Some of his friends have stepped up to raise some cash to help deal with the problem. Among those friends is Tony Pereira, an ultra-famous, Hollywood framebuilder who lives in the Mecca of handbuilt bikes, Portland, Oregon. They’re auctioning off a bike valued at about $7k for tickets that cost $10.

It’s not in my best interests as a gambler to share this news with you since I’ve already bought two raffle tickets for the bike, but it is in my best interests as a (sometime) contributing member of the human race. The winner gets the bike, plus a free trip to Portland to meet up with the frame builder for a personal fitting. (You also get skipped to the front of the line for the bike while the rest of the suckers buying Pereira frames have to sit on a 1-year waiting list.) Get your tickets here.
