Climbing into an (Erupting) Volcanic Crater
By Rocky Thompson on October 6th, 2010Climber Drew Bristol dropped into an active volcano, getting himself within 100m of molten rock. He pulled on a special futuristic suit for the stunt. How did his rope not melt at that temp? I’m not sure what he used, but I wouldn’t have recommended putting much weight on it while hanging over the lava. Well, regardless of what kind of rope it was, I hope this video serves as a warning to the Gearheads that one is coming back on warranty soon.
I like how he’s not wearing a helmet (I think that’s what that thing is, chillin on his belt?). Clearly, if he were to fall from that ledge, it wouldn’t do much good.
