Yes! Heavy Drinkers Live Longer Than Teetotalers

By Rocky Thompson on September 1st, 2010

The backcountry crowd can breathe a collective sigh of relief. New research indicates that drinkers live longer than those who totally abstain from alcohol. It’s been long known that people who have a drink or two a day live longer than those who never drink, but this new research suggests that even people who drink an extraordinary amount live longer than teetotalers. This is, frankly, shocking news. My theory? People who drink too much to drive get a lot of exercise riding their bikes home from the bar, and thereby (assuming they never get run over on the ride home) they get just the right amount of exercise to extend their life.
