Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Twenty-four-year-old Alexander Martin just completed his six-month, coast-to-coast canoe trip from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine. He did the solo trip in a 30lb Kevlar canoe, which he portaged over 800 miles across the dry parts of the country. He paddled mostly during the off season, including a frigid November in the Boundary Waters between [ more... ]

Bear Corpse Dumped Outside California Grocery

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

In something out of a bad episode of CSI, or rather any episode of CSI, some lunatic in California rolled a dead black bear out of their vehicle in front of a busy strip mall near San Francisco. The dead 300lb bear had been shot in the shoulder, and authorities are puzzled about, well, everything. [ more... ]

Canada Gov’t Suing Blackcomb Mountain

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

This is such a bizarre story that I couldn’t ignore it. A woman was snowboarding Whistler/Blackcomb last year; she caught an edge, hit the ground and speed, and then slid over a cliff insuring her back, leg, and ribs. If I was a Canadian and found myself lying on the rocks in this situation, I [ more... ]

McIntosh skied the two lines pictured on Behind the straightline for TGR’s latest film, Light the [ more... ]

Utah Climber Falls 80 Feet, Manages to Grab Rope on Way Down

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

A rock climber in Utah somehow pitched off the rock and was en route to the deck 80-feet below when he got a hold of the rope. He suffered severe burns on his hands and body from the rope, but had no lower-body injuries when he hit the ground feet first. As luck would have [ more... ]

Snowmaking False Starts

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Days after announcing that they’d already fired up the snow guns, Loveland in Colorado posted this: Where did the cool temps go? Indeed. I would guess they took off when we started producing greenhouse gases at unprecedented levels, but I guess it was more of a rhetoric question. According to Out There, the average temps [ more... ]

Woman Strangles Fox to Death

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

A 61-year-old woman nabbed a fox that approached and choked the life out of it with her bare hands. She lives in the Poconos (where NASCAR is very popular), but surprisingly she’s not into randomly choking animals. Turns out this one attacked her. The fox jumped at her and a friend ripping away a piece [ more... ]

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Looking to save a little cash next time you set off your SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger? Instead of calling in the Coast Guard, keep this guy’s number on hand.
