Colorado on Track to Break Rabies Records

By Rocky Thompson on August 23rd, 2010

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced that they’re on track to break every rabies record in the state since they began counting how many rabid skunks were biting people. Typically they’ll catch and test about 100 animals with rabies each year, almost all of them bats. So far this year, they’ve also caught 34 skunks and a bunch of foxes plus a horse. Colorado officials speculate that someone is trapping and releasing rabid skunks in different locations, so if you’re one of those skunk beauty pageant people in Colorado, knock it off. Also, if you’re feeling a little sick after getting bit by your pet squirrel or horse, maybe drop into the hospital before you lose the brainpower to make the choice.
