Southern California Officials Request People Require Fewer Rescues

By Rocky Thompson on August 18th, 2010

It seems Southern California has seen a rise in hikers and backcountry users requiring rescue. Every few days backpackers or day hikers are plucked off ridges in groups or by themselves, and many of them are being relayed to the Sheriff’s office through GPS messengers. While it’s nice that fewer people are dying, it’s a bit of a nuisance for the police and rescue teams. They’ve kindly requested that people begin carrying more water on their hikes, since it seems most of the time they’re called in for dehydrated hikers. I’m sure everyone will heed this call.
