Using a Taser as a Bear Deterrent
By Rocky Thompson on August 2nd, 2010
Police have become comfortable using tasers for everything from routine traffic stops to spicing up their chili. It’s no surprise that now they’re using them on wildlife. An Anchorage police officer spotted a black bear that had been foraging for food among humans. The animal was on his porch, so he opened the window and blasted it in the shoulder with a taser.
“I thought, ‘Here is a wonderful opportunity to give this a test,’ ” Parker said. He fired out the window and hit the bear in the shoulder from about 15 feet, he said.
“The bear promptly went inverted, with feet in the air, growling and crying at the same time, flailing with his feet,” Parker said. “He actually rolled off the porch.”
While perhaps a bit shocking, this might not be a bad idea in the backcountry. Now we just need someone to test it on a 1500lb, charging Alaskan coastal brown bear. Any volunteers?

Dick Cheney volunteers.
I have a better idea. Why not try it on a charging dumb ass Alaskan cop or any cop for that matter. I will volunteer ( and squeeze that trigger for 20-30 minutes )
