Massive Rescue Operation on Grand Teton

By Rocky Thompson on July 23rd, 2010

Sixteen hikers were plucked from Grand Teton after a lightning strike left them in various states of injury at 13,770ft. One person was killed in the incident. The mountainside was struck with lightning six or seven times when a storm moved in kicking off the largest rescue since the late 1960s. Two park service helicopters completed the rescue, and hikers are being treated for concussions and trauma resulting from being thrown by the strikes.
