New Ecosystem Map Shows Available Animal Habitat
By Rocky Thompson on June 17th, 2010
A new map produced using high-res ground and satellite surveys of land cover gives conservationists a tool to help argue for the protection of land for wildlife habitat. The data shows land that is available not only to sustain endangered species, but also to make sure that healthy species have enough space. I’m not sure what it says about New York City, but it seems the rats have plenty of room to grow.

Being a native Iowan it so saddens me to see that the whole state has pretty much gone to the humans. This is particularly disturbing being that Iowa ranks in the 30’s are far as state population density goes. That means there are a lot of people sitting on a lot of land being devoted to corn and soy beans. I think it is about time we see what we can do to get a little restorative and conservation work going there. No wonder there is pretty much only one “backpacking destination”:http://midwestbackpacking.com/yellowriver.shtml (barely) in the state.
