Leadville Racers Who Sold and Bought Berth Charged with Felonies
By Rocky Thompson on May 18th, 2010
A woman who paid for the chance to race in the Leadville 100 sold her spot to another woman who went on to win. The problem was that the winner was in her thirties, and the woman who registered was in her forties. After she took home the prize money, the race organizers got wise, and now both women have been charged with criminal impersonation, which is a felony. Unless the woman who sold her spot had gotten half that prize money, it seems like she’s pretty much getting ripped off. She should have put a note in her Craigslist post when she sold the berth that you weren’t allowed to take the prize money if you won.
