Barefoot Hiker Keeps His Promises

By Rocky Thompson on March 13th, 2010

Jaco Swart was guiding a group of clients on a trip down a river gorge in South Africa when a storm flooded the river and sent the group scrambling for higher ground. Swart hung on to the cliff side for 27 hours; 13 of his clients did not. At the time Swart made some promises. Mainly, that if a divine being saved his life, he’d walk around South Africa barefoot. It seems like an odd trade, but you get a little insane after hanging onto a cliff while everyone else is dropping away. It took the guy 9 years to get going, and 15 months to walk 932 miles around South Africa barefoot, but he did it. Nice work man. It’s easy to make promises, but follow-through gets a little tough after you come down off that rock.
