It probably wasn't the wolves that killed her. Like someone before me said, wolf attacks are extremely rare. They are more afraid of us then we are of them, they will run at the first hint of our scent. The wolves were probably just curious and went to investigate the body, as would many other wildlife if the body was left there long enough.

Hey, if you dont want to be confronted by wildlife, dont go walking on a road by yourself in the middle of nowhere in the wilderness, where "dangerious" wild animals are known to live and hunt.
You can't blame the wolves for being wolves.
Anyone who kills a wolf for doing what they have done since the dawn of time is just out for blood. two wrongs dont make a right.

I'm carrying a 50 cal myself. Never know.

Actually, if I was a woman, I wouldn't jog alone by myself in a remote spot. The U.S. just can't get it right to facilitate that happening, even with our crappy interpretation of the 2nd Amendment.

However, in Japan (where I live now) guns are virtually outlawed and women go everywhere safely by themselves. Violence is very, very rare here.

But hey...we got rights....

Matt, I know that wolf attacks are incredibly rare. I'm just saying here's yet another example. I was more talking about the woman who was missing. To you other ones, I do have some rage on this issue and perhaps I'll check into getting one of those rage cups to spit into. Do you think they sell them at backcountry.com? I choose to post my rage here because I often feel that this forum is a place where a lot of people think second amendment rights are quaint.

My sister is a runner and likes to run alone at a nature center on trails where she lives. She told me that one time this guy was just hanging out in the woods and when she ran by he cut through the woods to try to intercept her. She was very freaked and out ran the dude thankfully. Another time some guys in a car were pacing her and again she was scared for her safety. I bought her a glock and she plans to carry it while she runs. It is totally doable with the right set-up. It's better to carry concealed just to be as polite as possible to the general public.

If we just had the right to carry guns...

Wait, you do have that right in Alaska. Maybe we need to be required to carry guns, but it might make jogging difficult.

If proven...and let's assume for now it will be, it will be the first fatal attack in what...100 years.

See today's Wend story. It's the geese you need to look out for.

M really? Someone who is out for a run is not going to carry a piece. You'd have to strap it to your back to even keep the weight stable while you ran. And really isn't this case so specialized that it doesn't even really lend itself to your greater argument concerning concealed or open carry? I mean, she was up in Alaska in an area rural enough to call it's town a "village" so I'm pretty sure if she had wanted to carry a gun anywhere she could have.

On a side note, even if you are using the internet indoors, you could probably carry a small cup or container which would allow you to vent your literal spit rage at will.

m,

dogs kill more people each year than wolves. About 20 people a year die from cows.
"A study by the state (Alaska) epidemiologist showed that during the first 85 years of this century (1900-1999), only 20 people died in bear attacks in Alaska. In the 10 years 1975-85, 19 people in Alaska were killed by dogs."

What a terrible, needless tragedy. When I read things like this it literally makes me so angry I could spit. Just like the post a couple of days ago where the solo female hiker went missing at the same place where another woman reported that a man had exposed himself to her. I know that it may be a cliche at this point to mention this but...

Good thing she didn't need a gun to defend herself. I wonder why she didn't just call 911. Man, those gun guys are crazy.

I get equally tired of trying to convince folks that 1. the right to carry a gun isn't something that needs to be justified, and that 2. there is plenty of justification. At this point I think Rocky is just posting these things to get a rise out of me. It works....

Sounds like she was quite gristly. I mean that sounds quite grisly.

Encountered wolves myself today. Ok, wolf tracks. But they were fresh.

There was a good article in the latest National Geographic about wolves in the U.S. It's strange how much fear they inspire considering their actual impact on humans and livestock; they still kill significantly less livestock than coyotes. Awe-inspiring creatures, though.
