More Fun than Watching a Sleeping Bear

By Rocky Thompson on March 1st, 2010

A Canadian couple has installed a webcam in the den of a hibernating Kermode bear, a rare subspecies of the American Black Bear that lives in British Columbia. They apparently found the den when one of them fell into it during a hike. I guess if a person falling on him didn’t wake him up, then a webcam in your face shouldn’t be much of a bother. Still, seems like there’d be some kind of law against barging into bear dens and installing surveillance cameras.

    Hi Rocky.
This is “the Canadian Couple” that set up the Spirit Bear Cam. The cam is not inside the den, it’s a good ways away from Apollo’s den, with a good zoom. All you have to do is watch him and see that he’s not disturbed at all.
Thanks for posting this so others might enjoy their first viewing of a rare Kermode Spirit Bear.

This is getting into a different kind of “Olympic Spirit” to be sure. But now that the Olympics have ended, they are supposed to remove all surveillance cameras from BC.
