Daron Rahlves X-Games Crash
By Rocky Thompson on February 1st, 2010
Daron Rahlves dislocated his hip when he crashed out of skier cross in the X-Games. Quite an accident considering that the guy’s hoping to compete in the Olympics in two weeks. I’m no medical professional, but ‘dislocated hip’ sounds like something that takes a few days to recover from. If you don’t like watching YouTube videos shot with a camcorder off someone’s TV, or you’re an Olympic purist who thinks that events like ski cross have no place in the Olympics, I’ll point you toward this fantastic gallery of soaring ski jumpers at Wend.
Update: Rahlves will be “ready to go.” Huh? Maybe he’ll ride a monoski.
Ouch. I am a medical professional, and if he really dislocated his hip as in head-of-femur and acetabulum parting ways you probably won’t see Daron in the Olympics unless it’s the walker super cross or the Rascal luge.
Did anyone hear the arrogance from this guy last week on NPR about the danger of this sport? Hard to say it publicly, and maybe it’s because I don’t know him, but I have no sympathy.
Why would you risk competing in the X-Games which, while entertaining, aren’t really part of the pantheon of classic sporting associations when you’re about to compete in the freaking Olympics. Oh well, some lucky benchwarmer gets his spot now I guess
