‘Shark Whisperer’ Petting Tiger Sharks While They Chomp a Dead Whale

Researchers climbed onto the back of a dead whale floating off the coast of Australia while a school of Tiger Sharks fed on the animal. They’re hoping that the video convinces people that sharks are not man-eating animals, but nice fish that aren’t aggressive at all. Australian officials were less than enthused, and pointed out that touching whales is illegal and the last thing they want is to convince people that cavorting with powerful wild animals is a good idea.

They withdraw their hands pretty fast a couple of times when it looks like the shark will bite them. Only when they jump in the water in the middle of a feeding frenzy will I believe this. FAIL.
First, I second Kevin’s motion.
Second, the only thing they are proving is that sharks are single minded.
Third, as an engineer/scientist by training they are piss-poor “researchers.” They’re just harassing the sharks.
I live in Alaska, and I’ve got a bunch of “tame” polar bears not too far away that would really like some Aussie Lovin’. Let’s give these “researchers” another shot up in the Arctic.
While I’m guessing the intentions behind the actions in the video were good, ultimately, it is nothing more than a “stunt” disguised as shark conservation. The statement that tiger sharks are scavengers but not predators is utterly ridiculous.
This proves that Tiger Sharks are not man-eating? I Third Kevin’s motion! These are silly, reckless people, lacking any sense what so ever. The are way lucky they didn’t lose a hand, arm or worse.
