Vintage Backpacker Magazines Online

By Rocky Thompson on October 16th, 2009

Part of my old job at Thrifty Outfitters involved sitting behind a counter and reading magazines. There’d be a pile of Alpinist magazines too dog-eared to sell, but the best reads were the stacks of Backpacker magazines from the 70s. We kept a library in the basement of Mountain Bike, Surfer, and loads of camping magazines stretching back 20 and 30 years. Now you can read them all on Google Books. It’s the only time you’ll find yourself really interested in the ads.

This made my day….or year…or however long it takes me to look through everyone of them. The ads are the best part. I mean you would think that gear would have changed more than it really has….

    Thanks anyway for this post!
