Lost Teen Relies on Survivorman for Survival Tips

By Rocky Thompson on October 15th, 2009

A 13-year-old hunter got lost trying to find his way back to camp on the last day of the hunt, and he looked to Survivorman for help.

Cold and wet from falling into a stream, he remembered watching TV shows explaining he needed to get his wet socks and shoes off if he was to survive the night.

“It was supposed to be sixteen degrees that night. I didn’t know how cold it was. I didn’t really think about how cold it was because it would only make me colder, but I kept myself warm by huddling in the jacket that I had,” he said.

And that’s not even the weirdest part of this story. The kid was found at 3am the next morning by his stepmom. She was driving by in a truck that got stuck in the mud about 75 feet away, and she heard him calling for help when they got out to look at the truck. The woefully short and uninformative article says that “without that miracle, Eric may never have been found,” but fails to mention whether they were looking for him, noticed he was gone, or they were just driving home from the bar.

What would the world do without Les Stroud?

Amen to that. Had this been a “Lost Teen Relies on Man Vs Wild” we would have heard about how the kid jumped off a cliff to find a water source and climbed a 100ft tree to wave at possible passing helicopters.
