Woman Defends Self from Bear with iPhone
By Rocky Thompson on October 14th, 2009
A young woman hiking in Vermont would probably disagree that deer are the most dangerous animals in the wilderness.
Rowley went through her mental list of how to prevent bear attacks. Play dead? A good last resort. Pepper spray? Didn’t have it. Drop a backpack to distract the bear? She wasn’t wearing one. All Rowley had was her iPhone.
The bear closed within 30 feet. “In a semi-panic, I threw the phone at the bear,” Rowley says.
She should have used Google to find out what to do in a bear attack. Throwing your phone in a panic is like having a loaded gun and throwing that at the bear. She probably could have downloaded a Bear Spray app quick.
The bear played with her phone for awhile while she made a hasty retreat to wait for the bear to leave. Unable to part with the $300 phone, she went back and found the destroyed phone and took it to the Apple store. I’m sure those smug Geniuses loved her story. They did not offer her a free replacement.

That is my all time favorite picture…
Hey look a reason for concealed carry in national parks!
Concealed carry? Why do you say that? Unless I missed something she didn’t get hurt by the bear.
