Canada Trying to Assert Itself

By Rocky Thompson on September 22nd, 2009

Canada’s iron grip on all things ice is tightening as the Olympics draw nearer. Speedskaters, lugers, bobsledders, and skiers are all being denied access to the site of the Vancouver Games for training, and instead being told to go home for practice. This must be devastating to Canada’s luge-based economy, but sacrifices must be made. Preparing for the Olympics is as close as this country will ever get to preparing for a World War. American Olympians are pissed, and they say that the Canadians were given an extra 60 to 90 rides on the luge prior the Salt Lake Olympics. A gentleman’s agreement means nothing to these ruthless ice people.

That luge-er looks like they’re squinting their eyes like they can’t bear to look at their impending doom. I thought they were steering that thing. But, apparently it’s just an exercise in closing your eyes and hoping for the best?

We’ve had soldiers dying in Afghanistan almost as long as both world wars combined. Nice work on disrespecting the people giving their lives fighting YOUR war.

I’m not one of the innumerable thousands of people with the ‘Support our Troops’ stickers on their car, I don’t particularly support the mission over there, however I do support and respect the soldiers making braver sacrifices than I (and undoubtedly you) ever could.

If a Canadian made a similar comment about American soldiers, they’d be lynched/sued/hung/shot/etc. Says something about our national temperaments, eh?

Take a well written satirical post (Deadspin) and turn it into ignorant, humourless, heap of bile (the goat), well done. Remind me not to support backcountry.com ever again.

Now where is that ‘unsubscribe’ button in my feed reader…

How can you call us ruthless … look at our pretty little hats.

(FYI, in my 29 years here I have never seen an RCMP officer wearing one)

Hey Dave, online butthurt-ness is a sure sign of one thing: boredom.
And you’re sounding pretty butthurt, man.
Comparing a jock blog to the Goat regarding a socio-political topic?
    Earth to Dave…
