CamelBak All Clear Water Purifier

By Rocky Thompson on September 3rd, 2009

CamelBak will begin selling this UV bulb in October for about $130. The All Clear cap replaces the normal CamelBak screw top, and turning it on for a minute and a half kills 99.99% of all the water-borne bacteria in the bottle. It’s essentially the same thing as a SteriPen, but this integrates with your CamelBak system, if that’s what you’re running already. The battery won’t last quite as long as the SteriPen and the entire system is about $50 more expensive.

It’s packaged with a Camelbak bottle–so consider it a $50 bottle. Camelbak makes some cool products, but they’ve been overpricing pretty drastically. $200 for a vest with a water bladder pocket–do they actually want to sell this stuff?!

    In other words, it’s crap.

My Steripen died on day 3 of a 4 day trip. Moisture got inside the bulb somehow. In the end, it gave me a good reason to return it to the store; I did not like how easy it was to contaminate the clean water with the bad water that covered everything while filling up the bottle.
