“Worst Trip Ever” Journal for Sale

By Rocky Thompson on August 24th, 2009

In 1911 three British men walked 130 miles across Antarctica’s Ross Island in a pitch-black polar winter to retrieve a few penguin eggs. It was thought that a penguin’s embryo might contain the missing link between dinosaurs and birds, and since penguins lay eggs in the middle of winter they didn’t have many choices for the trip timing. Edward Wilson managed to bang together 40 pages of a journal during -70F days and winds strong enough to shred his tent and blow most of it away. Apparently Wilson’s family has decided to sell off some of his goods, and the journal can be yours for only about $150k. That’s kind of a lot for a travel journal; if it’s out of your price range I’ll sell you one of mine for only $50k.
