Pistol-Packin’ Potluck in Michigan Park

By Rocky Thompson on August 4th, 2009

Pistol enthusiasts gathered in a Michigan town park about 30 miles north-northwest of Detroit, passing dishes while wearing sidearms. The potluck was an effort to raise awareness about a new Michigan state law that allows people to openly carry registered guns without a special permit. This is exactly what Detroit’s under-gunned suburbs need. The park would have been an especially bad place for me to light off fireworks over the weekend or ride around in my bike helmet that has antlers attached (why do I have that helmet, anyway?).

Do you not understand the difference between criminals and law-abiding citizens? Detroit was way under-gunned in respect to having guns in the hands of good people. The criminals never cared about gun laws in the first place, and they have always had plenty of guns.

…but I wouldn’t expect you decipher the difference Rocky.

I totally agree with “The Dude.”

Rocky, you have no clue that there are law-abiding citizens that, shockingly have guns legally.

If all the guns where taken away by the gov. you would still have the criminals with guns!

  3. The Sensible One

Yes, because guns don’t kill people, people kill people, right?

Exercising one’s rights has nothing to do with other’s view of “need” to. Armed citizen symbolizes self determination and independence.

Picture included shows fanny pack holster. It would be considered concealed carry.

The park would have been an especially bad place for me to light off fireworks over the weekend or ride around in my bike helmet that has antlers attached (why do I have that helmet, anyway?).

Why would it be a bad place to do both??? First part suggests that loud noises scare gunowners (LOL) and they are likely to open fire. (ROFL) Second implies that people can mistake a bicycle rider wearing horned helmet for game. (LMAO)

    Enjoy the helmet.

I like how Rocky posts these throw-away gun stories every so often to bait people like the above in order too boost his page views and comments. I see what you did there.

Just once I want to hear people defend carrying a knife with such zeal. Why does the right to bear arms (RAWR) seem to focus solely on projectile weapons? Why not go feudal and strap on a sword? It’s no more ridiculous that feeling the need to carry a handgun everywhere and it would actually add a nice bit of flair to an outfit. Or wouldn’t a crossbow be just as intimidating?
