Access to prime climbing areas on the back of Mount Rushmore might be completely cut off due to security changes taking place at the park. This is kind of a big deal if you happen to be a rock climber trapped in South Dakota since it’s not like there are dozens of other awesome climbing areas within a short drive. The memorial superintendent says the new security steps are a direct result of the Greenpeace assault on Mount Rushmore and could mean that the public will have no access to the area. I assume that this is some posturing on the part of the Rushmore people who are looking to wag their fingers a little longer at the climbers who got slammed against the wall several times while hanging their banner over the monument. Hopefully the park people wake up and realize that most climbers are more pissed at Greenpeace than they are.
