Rip Van Winkle was an experienced hiker who made a couple mistakes on his last hike. He planned on only hiking for about two hours so he left his water bottle and, for some reason, his cell phone in his car. Two hikers heard his cries for help after he spent more than 24-hours stuck at the bottom of a ravine.
“I went through survival school as an adolescent. I figured that 24 hours was quite doable. Of course, I was only thinking two or three hours, had no drinking water with me. Twenty-four hours is about the limit. I pushed the limit,” he said.
He says next time he’ll bring a whistle. Yeah, that cell phone may have come in handy, too.
