Super Pricey Damascus Steel Leatherman

By Rocky Thompson on July 10th, 2009

Leatherman really could not have picked a worse time to try selling $1000 Damascus steel multi-tools. The problem with these things is that you strip out the medium screwdriver or snap off the saw blade and all of the sudden that’s the only piece of it you need to use. Multi-tools end up as worthless hunks of metal, or they end up left on a comfy log in the middle of the forest where you sat down to eat lunch. The original Leatherman Wave is fantastic (I found mine on a log in the middle of the forest), but paying $1000 for a multi-tool is insane. The Leatherman Damascus Wave is available now. Only 1000 were made. Something tells me they won’t run out anytime soon.

    Uhh, they’re $500. Still insane.

i think you’ve greatly misjudged the knife collectors here. most of these guys were asked the question, “it’s me of the knives. which is it?” and chose the latter. (i’m assuming the warranties are better on a leatherman and the fact that you can replace the broken bits).

let’s face it, kinfies, ya gotta be a little off to keep buying essentially the same item over and over again until you have basements and garages full of them.

FYI–They’re $500 not $1000. Still not worth it, but a bit cheaper.

    If it’s only $500, I don’t want it.

Just imagine forgetting to pack this and having to drop it in the box of no return in the airport.

Love knives and have a small collection. Would like to have a Damascus bldae, but know that is not practical. Have owned a Leatherman for almost 20 years. I recently lost a wave to the lake because I forgot to snap holster shut. Replaced it with the less expensive Skeletool but will miss the saw on the Wave. Couldn’t imagine a $500.00 knife at the bottom of the lake because of my carelessness.
