Twilight Series Credited for Increasing Visitation to Olympic National Park
By Rocky Thompson on June 24th, 2009
The New York Times is reporting that as many as 30% of visitors strutting through Olympic National Park in capes and black lipstick are there because of the Twilight book and movie series.
These “Twihards” wander, wide-eyed, down trails in the misty Hoh rain forest under giant trees festooned with moss, “trying to see what Bella saw,” said a park ranger, Jon Preston. He estimated that at times up to 30 percent of park visitors are Twilight-related and said that he was contemplating putting together a nature program on bloodsuckers (mosquitoes, flies and lampreys).
That’s pretty impressive. I’m referring, of course, to getting The New York Times to quote your entirely unsubstantiated estimate regarding what percentage of park visitors are fans of the book and movie series. Maybe Mt Hood should create a Twilight-theme camp to avoid this 15% dip that’s affected all the Western ski resorts this summer.

Are we sure we want this sort of angst around our protected wildlife? What if there’s a spill?
